Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
