Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
